Introducing… “O SACI”
The Ondas Ensemble will soon be premiering the U.S. production of Brazilian composer Miguel Kertsman’s musical theater piece for children – “O Saci.” Kertsman’s “O Saci,” is an original tale about cultural understanding, and has the Brazilian folk legend, “O Saci” as its central character.
“O Saci” was premiered in August 2009 at London’s Covent Garden Theater to rave reviews. Ondas is excited to be bringing this wonderful production to the U.S. and partnering with the Cerqua-Rivera Dance Theater Company.
The performing team consists of flute, cello, piano 4 hands, four dancers and a narrator. November 2010 we started the previews to our production at Oakton and Washington Schools in Evanston, IL as well as a benefit concert for the Musical Offering at S.P.A.C.E.. The children from each school participated in the production by creating sets, art work, costumes, and will narrate during the performance (photos in our gallery below). While preparing the artwork and narration, the children learned about the Brazilian rain forest which runs as the the backdrop to “O Saci’s” story line: “By working together we can create something really wonderful.”
